I am offering 2 handmade candle gift sets this year. All candles are 100% pure beeswax. Proceeds from the sale of these items are being donated to the development of the AAMOM Agricultural Education and Training Center . I will be vending at the Harrisonburg Farmer’s Market the first 3 Saturdays in December 2011, from 9:00-12:00. NOTE: Boxes are white on the outside, brown inside. Hand printed on white side (outside) with bee design. Made from post-consumer recycled paper.

“Virginia to Africa” project at the Festival of Leaves, Oct. 8th in Front Royal, VA

Get ready for some great shopping! Beth and I have been very busy getting ready for the upcoming Festival of Leaves, with the help of members of the Browntown Baptist Church. We will be selling hand knitted scarves, gorgeous eyeglass/cellphone cases and wine tote bags- many made with striking African fabrics (see pictures here on LOEP facebook ). For kids we have adorable fabric “crayon rolls” (like an artist’s brush roll, only it holds crayons), and ponytail holders embellished with colorful hand covered buttons. We will also have beeswax candles and handmade cards.

All proceeds from the sale of these original handcrafted items will go to LOEP. Please come out and support this worthy cause and have a great time at the festival! Look for our booth banner, “Virginia to Africa” , on the corner of Chester St. We look forward to seeing you there!

Fall 2011 update and events

It has been a hot and busy summer around here!

Cause for Creation and LOEP are collaborating on some fall craft events, with the help of some members of the Browntown Baptist Church. We have dubbed this collaborative effort “Virginia to Africa”, and we will be offering our handmade Virginia crafts for sale at the Festival of Leaves on Sat. Oct 8, 2011. This major event takes place in Front Royal, VA. Our Virginia to Africa booth will be located on Chester St., and our proceeds will be donated to the Liberian Orphan Education Project (LOEP ).

Our next Harrisonburg Farmer’s Market date is Sat. Sept. 10th:

Beth has some great new gift items, including gorgeous wine bags which are multi-purpose and made for heavy duty use.

I will have a good supply of beeswax candles and cards. My customers and I both prefer the natural color of beeswax in varying shades of white to golden yellow, so no dyes or artificial colors. I will have my hand dipped 8 and 10 inch tapers, plus votives, and molded beehive candles.

Farmer’s Market customers, please take note: If you wish to buy for the Christmas and holiday gift giving season, you should plan to come see us on Sept. 10. Future vending dates for fall will be uncertain depending upon our sales at the Festival of Leaves and turnaround time for filling other orders. We are already very busy with pre-orders and our time is limited due to the nature of our handmade products.

Great gift ideas for weddings, graduations etc. I’ll have handmade paper cards, beeswax candles in a variety of colors, plus birthday candles. Also Lights for Liberia Candles and gift sets, and exotic handmade patchwork mats. People have asked, so I want to emphasize that ALL of my candles are 100% solid beeswax, including the colors which are dyed beeswax.

Update-The Farmer’s Connection, Heifers for Liberia

The latest group of heifers from the Farmer’s Connection project has been sold. These top quality heifers are going to a modern dairy facility in Turkey, to help advance breeding programs and the dairy industry in that country. The net proceeds from the sale of these animals are being used towards the establishment of an agricultural education center at AAMOM in Liberia. So-we have heifers donated and raised in Rockingham County Virginia, sold to Turkey to improve that country’s dairy industry, and in turn the proceeds will help to further agriculture and a future for children in Liberia. Just goes to show that many hands make a light load, or one fish really can feed 5000!

Lights for Liberia Art Candles-new pictures and more info

The “Lights for Liberia” art candles are being made specifically to raise money for a generator at Children’s Relief Ministry in Paynesville, Liberia. Recently their generator broke down and cannot be repaired. Meanwhile the children are studying by candlelight-they are so dedicated to learning that they will do whatever it takes to keep up with their studies. Pictured here are 7 of the newest residents of Children’s Relief Ministry. You can share a little light of your own by purchasing these unique handmade beeswax candles as a reminder of your contribution to help these children.
